Top 30 Best FREE iPad Apps Ever In The App Store!
After almost three years away, Apple has finally updated the.
Oh yes, and it comes in gold now too.
See also: I've spent the last week using the iPod touch and I have to say, it's a great little companion.
The main question mark: is this device still relevant in 2015?
Let's check it out.
The loop was cool, but kind of impractical.
What you're left with is a very svelte 4-inch device that looks like a thinner iPhone 5.
The aluminum casing read article in gold, silver the color of our review unitspace grey, blue, pink and Product RED.
In design terms, this still looks like a pre-iPhone 6 Apple device.
There are chamfered edges.
It looks like a baby iPad Air.
The big news best games for mobile touch screen the new iPod touch isn't its design but what's inside.
It now comes with a dual-core A8 processor, clocked at 1GHz.
The device scored a 1376 single-core and 2436 multi-core on GeekBench 3.
Compare that to a 1609 and a 2848 respectively for the iPhone 6.
This means the device is technically a bit slower than the iPhone 6 — but in my tests, I couldn't pick up on any difference.
The addition of the A8 also means a new graphics chip, which allows the iPod touch to support Metal.
Metal is the graphical framework Apple introduced with iOS 8 that allows game developers to get "straight to the metal" of the GPU.
The result is that games such as Brothers in Arms 3 — and even my the best games ever for ipod touch casual game, Threes — run faster and more efficiently than before.
It's now 8 megapixels, and is very similar to what you see the best games ever for ipod touch the iPhone 6.
In my photo tests, the detail wasn't as good as what you get on the iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus, but it was close.
The camera also supports burst mode, slow-motion video and HD recording.
The front-facing FaceTime camera has the same resolution as before, but it has a new sensor and supports burst mode for selfies.
It also has the M8 motion co-processor, so apps such as Apple Health are supported too.
That said, there are a few differences between the two devices.
In addition to the bigger screen, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus have and support NFC for.
I understand why Apple didn't bother putting Touch ID on the iPod touch — it helps keep the price down — but it would have been nice to have.
If you're used to Touch ID devices, going back to using the four-digit passcode feels downright archaic.
No game or app could slow down the device; it felt the best games ever for ipod touch bit as responsive as my iPhone 6.
The battery life is also terrific.
Apple claims the video playback time is up to 8 hours, and that's about what I saw.
The device also charges super fast, charging 80% in two hours and offering a full charge in about 4 hours.
I found that plugging in the device even for 30 minutes could give it a big battery boost.
The new iPod touch also supports 802.
Storage and capacity The base model iPod touch comes with 16GB of storage.
This isn't a ton of storage — especially if you plan on having lots of games and music stored for offline listening.
For the people still lamenting the death of the 160GB iPod classic, the 128GB games touch online touch isn't a bad alternative.
Plus you can use streaming music services such as or Spotify.
It's also worth noting that flash memory is way faster than the old hard drives in the iPod classic.
Who is this for?
That's the question I struggled to answer while reviewing the new device.
Let me cut to the chase: If you already have an iPhone 5S or better, you probably don't need an iPod touch.
But if you're rocking an older iPhone, or if you carry Android phone and you still want access to the Apple ecosystem, or you just want something to toss in a bag and use for workouts, I can see the appeal in this device.
Using a 4-inch screen, after ten months with the iPhone 6, felt weirdly retro.
But I can't deny how great the smaller device felt in my hand, and how much better it fit in my pocket.
Matt Birchler that most of the people buying the iPod touch are older adults like over 60 or kids under ten.
I can't see a huge rationale for the device unless you really want a separate music or workout device or you're an Android user who really wants some Apple apps too.
My bigger question around the iPod touch: Won't a lot of these people, kids especially, be just as happy with an iPad mini 2?
That's better for games, and it's better for older, tired eyes.
Still, it's hard to fault the iPod touch.
It's a good device, and I would argue it's the most competitive iPod touch since the second-generation version was released back in 2008.
It's just that being the best iPod ever doesn't necessarily matter if you already have an iPhone.
